Serve the World

Serving the Community

Here at COTC we desire to see the greater Manatee area saturated with the hope of the Gospel. Often this is accomplished by coming along side programs in our community and help or support what God has called them to do. Other times, it is through acts of love and kindness, we embrace and oversee. It is such a beautiful thing when God calls us to meet needs in our community, in His name.

2012 Community Events

Food Pantry for the Community

A timely ministry meeting the current crisis. Providing food to the community every Friday from 9am to 11am. People must be registered to pick up food. If you would like to donate or volunteer, please contact Lorri Vogel.

Canned Food Sunday

The first Sunday of the month, we are collecting canned goods to help supplement the food pantry. Canned goods are the most costly food item to purchase through Manatee County Food Bank as the rate is based off of weight. To be better stewards with the funds donated to support the food pantry we are requesting donation of canned goods. So keep an eye out for those buy 1 get 1 free deals and donate a can of food. Thank you!

2011 Community Events

Bayshore Elementary Students at Christmas

Christmas isn't about presents, it is about celebrating God's great gift to us and a great opportunity to give to others and share that love with them. The Christmas tree in the foyer has never looked lovelier with the spread of generously donated gifts for 50 children at Bayshore Elementary. Thank you to all those who contributed and prayed for the children and families.

Thanksgiving Luncheon for GAP

Church of the Cross hosted a Thanksgiving luncheon for the support group, Grandparents as Parents (GAP). An amazing turn-out. The children were able to "shop" for Christmas presents for their grandparents.

Pepsi Food Distribution at Church of the Cross

Partnering with the Manatee County Food Bank, Pepsi distributed a truck load of food and beverages to families in need. They served over 300 families with free food.

FELT - Feeding Empty Little Tummies

This school year, we kicked off a new program for Bayshore Elementary students. The school identified 50 students who were likely to go without food over the weekend. Imagine your last meal is lunch-time on Friday until Monday morning. Wow. To meet the need, we were granted $10,000 by a local women's organization to make sure these children went home with food over the weekend. Praise God. Please keep this program in your prayers as well as the children who are benefiting from the program.

Back to School 2011

Wow, what an amazing adventure of trusting God and watching God move through you and your generous giving. God put it on our hearts to sponsor Bayshore Elementary School students with backpack and schools supplies - all 720 of them. Guess what, we did it. God did it. The students were so grateful that they sent beautiful thank you letters to the Church. Even more touching a few children recognized these supplies were given to them because God loves them!!! Yes. Mission accomplished.
